Ed grew up in the Twin Cities and went to Michigan Tech where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. He accepted Christ in the Spring of 1987. A year-and-a-half later he met his bride-to-be, Heidi. After Ed’s graduation, they were married and settled in the Twin Cities where Ed has worked in the environmental consulting field since 1990. Heidi is an exceptional educator and a trainer of new teachers. Ed and Heidi, together with their five young adult children and a family friend who attended church with the Hoefs since 2nd grade, were all prayerfully seeking a church home. God led them to Hope-Downtown in September 2013.
Ed enjoys reading, baking, hiking and motorcycling. He had an awesome summer job in college for three years, driving tractor-trailers for a large dairy. Later, as a young dad, he served on a suburban fire department for six years. He gained certification to drive and operate nearly all of the various engines and ladder trucks. As a result of both jobs, he gained comfort with driving large vehicles while safely navigating tight spaces. He signed on as a PT Bus Driver for Hope-Downtown in February 2018.
